We at Fieldstone believe that "a comprehensive education in music significantly enhances overall creativity and academic development of our students."
The rudiments of Fieldstone's Global Knowledge curriculum comes from the work of professor E.D. Hirsh Jr. from the University of Virginia. He concluded that a broad and deep knowledge base allows children to be culturally literate.
The appreciation, knowledge, and skill base of music comprises part of the foundation of knowledge base Hirsh determined was so vastly important. Throughout history, music has been one of the most universal, essential, and enduring of human endeavors and therefore, in order for someone to have a true Global Knowledge, they must possess a knowledge base, understanding and appreciation for music.
We strive to instill a deep respect and understanding for all aspects of music. This includes learning theory, performing and listening to many forms of music. There are also numerous performance opportunities helps improve self-esteem, build confidence and give students opportunities for self-expression and creativity.
Strings & Guitar (Grades 7-8)
Our students use the basics learned from the Suzuki Method and progress to more advanced string instruction. The focus will remain on the violin and cello.
There are units of music history and theory leading up to the Grade One Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate.
Starting Fall 2007, students in Grade Seven have the option of learning to play the guitar.
